The American Solar Energy Society is a national non-profit group that dedicates itself to promoting and advancing solar energy use to benefits the national as well as global environment. It is the ASES mission to promote widespread use of solar engery for the short term as well as long term.
The American Solar Energy Society publishes a bi-monthly magazine that has won a number of awards. Called Solar Today, it covers all facets of solar energy and other renewable energy technological breakthroughs. Continuous topics addressed in the issues include case study building, solar and other energy policies and projects on a community-wide scale.
ASES is the U.S. arm of the International Solar Energy Society, and as such dedicates itself to adoption and development of renewable energy including solar energy, wind energy, hydrogen energy, geothermal energy, ocean energy, energy from biofuels and overall energy efficiency.
Some specific and ongoing ASES projects include the promotion of regional and national short and long term solar energy sue, the organization of the national conference on solar energy, the annual nationwide solar tour, and the online newsletter, the Sunbeam. ASES also sponsors roundtable discussion on solar energy and related issues in our nation’s capital, distributes publications of interest to solar energy advocates, and organizes a network for solar action.
On its Web site ASES publishes answers to frequently asked solar energy questions. Here are some of the more commonly asked questions and their answers.
Can solar energy be used for my home or my business? How do I determine if I will have enough sun for it?
The answer is that there are few places where the solar energy would not be adequate to meet at least some of your solar energy system needs. A solar energy system designer in your area, or an installer or builder or solar architect can assess your requirements for power, your property, the type of system you would need, the availability of sun and other factors to make the determination if your solar energy system would meet your power needs. Typically, a solar energy system will give off plenty of energy even on a cloudy day. It will just give you less than on a sunny day.
The next question is about whether solar electricity can be used to heat a home or office’s water? The answer is that this is impractical, as a solar water heating system is much more cost effective. Similar, if you want to heat a small space you could do this best with equipment that creates solar thermal heat with passive solar designs or collectors that are transpired.

Learn everything you need to know about Energy, from conserving it to energy drinks

The second type is fate plate solar panels and evacuated/vacuum tube’s these work in a different way to the photovoltaic as they don’t convert the sunlight into electricity but convert it directly into heat to be used to heat your hot water. Out of the two units for heating hot water in the home, the solar vacuum tube system in more efficient with efficiency’s of over 90% in ideal conditions.

How do solar hot water panels work?

Solar hot water is not a new concept it has been around in one form or another for over a century now, but the technology has advanced a lot in the last 20 or so years.

Solar vacuum tubes are the best system for collecting solar energy from the sun, they work by heating a special heat conducting material inside a tube encased in a outer evacuated tube.

The suns light hits the outer coating and is then converted to heat, it then passes through the vacuum and is absorbed and trapped in the heat conducting material (sometimes a liquid antifreeze solution , oil or with the new systems conductive copper). This heat is then transported by means of conduction to the hot water cylinder to heat the water. This process with modern solar technology is so efficient we are seeing readings of over 90% efficiency this is by far one of the best solutions for solar water heating

The choice of solar panels for your house or home should be made with a return on investment in mind. Solar 365 would give you a cast Iron guarantee that you would recoup at least 25% of your investment within 3 years of system install this would come from the amount you would save on fuel from heating hot water in your home.

If you have a pool, you know how much heating it can crank up your utility bill. Solar energy systems for pools offer an alternative method that will not devastate your bank account.
Solar Energy Systems for Pools
When most people think of solar energy systems, they think of the large crystalline structures that are meant to collect a lot of solar energy in order to convert it into solar power. However, there are other uses for solar energy systems. One of the more ingenious uses for this technology is the use of solar energy systems for heating pools. By using solar power to heat your swimming pool, you can be sure that your morning swim will always be nice, comfortable and cheap.
Everyone has to heat their pool unless they are living in a tropical climate where the temperature doesn’t drop at night. Some people choose to purchase a pool cover, but these only work to limit heat loss versus actually heating up the water. Gas heaters work well, but the operating cost of a gas heater can really add up. A low initial cost can draw pool owners to gas heaters, but the charges over the life of the use of the pool can be appalling.
Using solar energy systems for heating pools, however, can solve all of the problems of the above methods. Usually, solar energy systems are installed on the roof of your house, where much sunlight hits. These solar energy systems collect heat, which is transmitted to water stored in hoses behind the solar collectors. This warms the water, which is then circulated through the pool. This method of heating a swimming pool does cost more initially than any other heating system, but the solar collectors and other accessories pay for themselves within a few years. If you plan to live in the home for some time, the cost will be a fraction of any other heating method. If you plan to sell the house in the near future, the solar energy systems will add to the value of the house since they are considered energy savers over time.
The use of solar energy systems for heating pools is a time tested strategy. If you live in an area where lots of homes have pools, you should take a walk around the neighborhood. You will notice lots of homes with pools have solar energy systems. The only downside to this approach is the government does not offer any financial incentives for heating your pool with solar. Given the utility savings, it really doesn’t matter. It is still a no brainer to use solar energy systems for heating pools.
Solar energy systems are a great choice for heating your swimming pool. As well as being the most cost effective heating system, solar energy systems are the most eco-friendly as well. Choosing solar energy for your swimming pool heating means that everyone wins!

Rick Chapo is with SolarCompanies.com, a directory of solar power companies.

Solar energy is a renewable, clean energy that has been around for thousands of years in one form or another. Following is an overview of solar energy.

Solar Energy Overview

Solar energy is all about harnessing the power of the sun to produce energy. The sun rains enough solar energy on the Earth in one day to power the entire energy needs of the world for one year. Solar energy is considered a renewable energy source because it will exist for as long as our sun does, estimated to be another 4.5 billion years. Solar energy is also considered a clean energy because it does not produce pollutants or byproducts harmful to the environment.

Solar energy was the first energy source used by mankind. Of course, the use was limited to drying things and heating caused by direct contact, but it was a use. In modern times, solar energy has been a power source since the early 1950s, but was not widespread due to technological issues which rendered it an ineffective and expensive energy source. With technology advancements, solar energy is moving to the forefront as a potential alternative to fossil fuels.

The future is indeed bright for solar energy as new solar nanotechnology is close to creating solar platforms that boggle the mind. For instance, a few companies are trying to create solar quantum dots, which will be mixed in the paint you use for your home. Yes, you will actually paint on solar energy panels that will power your home

Currently, solar energy is produced primarily through the use of solar cells, also known as photovoltaic cells. The process works by placing the cells in direct sunlight. Sun hits the cells causing a chemical reaction that creates an electric current. The current is then turned into electricity. The problem with these cells, however, is they are only about 15 percent efficient.

Solar energy is typically classified in two ways, passive solar and active solar. Both approaches produce solar energy, but in very different ways

Passive solar is exactly what it sounds like. It does not involve panel systems or other moving mechanisms to produce solar energy. Instead, passive solar involves planning a structure in such a way as to capture the power of the sun with windows, tanks and so on. These systems can be used to heat homes, water and so on.

Active solar energy systems typically involve some form of solar panels. The panels are oriented to maximize exposure to the sun. Depending on the system, the panels will then either directly convert sunlight to electricity, which is then transformed from direct current electricity to alternate current electricity and stored in batteries or fed into the grid system of the local utility. Active systems are more expensive and complex.

Solar energy has numerous advantages over other energy platforms. It is produces no pollution, requires little maintenance and comes with significant financial incentives in the form of tax deductions, tax credits and rebates from manufactures. In a majority of states, solar energy can also be sold back to utilities per a concept known as net metering. This reduces the need for batteries and significantly cuts utility bills.

Unfortunately, solar energy has some disadvantages as well. The initial cost of purchase and installation can be expensive. Second, areas with limited sunlight are problematic. Third, solar energy obviously can’t be produced at night. Despite these disadvantages, solar energy is a booming energy platform.

The largest producers of solar energy in the world are Germany, Japan and the United States. California has recently introduces a solar initiative devoting over three billion dollars to promoting solar energy use by residents in the state. As this overview demonstrates, the solar energy platform is coming on strong.

Energy costs always seem to be on the rise. This is largely due to the fact that we are using more energy then is available. Eventually our current energy sources are going to be depleted. That is why so many people are looking into alternatives. They are trying out solar power.
Solar power may not yet be ideal for every situation, but one place it seems to be the perfect match is outside. Solar pool heat is a great example of a perfect way to use solar energy. It is ideal because your pool is going to be exposed to the sun and you are going to use your pool during the sunniest times of the year.
Solar pool heating involves one of two methods. It can be either passive or active. Passive solar pool heating involves simple methods and equipment. Active solar pool heating involves a bit more complexity. As the names suggest a passive system simply draws in the suns energy, while an active system actively collects the suns energy.
Passive solar pool heating is usually done with a solar blanket or pool cover. The cover soaks up the suns heat and traps in inside the pool to warm up the water. The downside is the cover can only be used when the pool is not being used and if there is not adequate sunlight then there will not be as much heat which can lead to colder water temperatures on occasion. Passive solar pool covers are quite easy to install. They usually have some sort of reel system that allows you to cover and uncover the pool without a lot of hassle.
Active solar pool heating involves collecting, storing and moving the solar energy. A solar panel, a battery and storage unit are all parts of an active pool heating system. Active pool heating systems can be complex to install, but they are more reliable then passive pool heating systems. To install an active pool heating system you need to run cables, install the panels and connect everything to the pool.
Whichever heating system you select for your pool-whether it be active or passive-it will ultimately be much cheaper than a gas or battery operation, which will require the constant replacement of limited inputs. They are also easier to install and much safer. Above all, the solar energy is free. You can save a bundle on your energy bills by using a solar pool heating system over other systems.

Learn how you can save money and save the Earth by using the infinite source of energy: Solar Energy.
