Solar Power Secrets
Your personal guide to solar power at home

The roof of your house is of vital importance as to how and where your solar panels will be. With the right angle to the sun, your solar panels will get a lot of usable energy from it. Even with a solar power kit, having the wrong angle of your home solar power panels can make your solar power system inefficient. As a general rule, if you live north of the equater you will want to have your solar panels facing south. Avoid shade at all costs or it will cost you in the long run. If even part of your solar panel is in the shade it can cut it’s efficiency in half.

In order to make your DIY solar power system to work properly you should find out how often your region is covered in clouds or is rainy so you can see how many solar panels you will need to get you through the darkest months.

One of the most crucial elements of your homemade solar power is the batteries. Batteries are essential because they allow you to have power even when the sun is not shining or when it is cloudy and the solar panels are not producing as much electricity. Connecting your homemade solar power system directly to a power grid may solve the issue of having batteries but I do not necessarily recommend that complicated route. Deep cycle batteries are the best kind to get and they will not have to be replaced for many years of proper usage. These will ensure little energy loss in your solar power system and maximum efficiency.

A charge controller will also be needed in your DIY solar power system. A great thing about a charge controller is that it helps your batteries last longer by making sure they don’t get too much juice or give out too much juice.

And for the last part of your homemade solar power project you will want a way to make the Direct Current of your solar panel, into Alternating Current, used in your home. In order to accomplish this you will need to obtain an inverter. There are a few electrical inverters that will not require a whole lot of wiring but some electrical experience would be beneficial. It is important to keep your whole electrical system up to code and make sure you are safe as well in this process. I would highly recommend you get an electrician help you out with this.

I would not be surprised if you did everything properly, that your solar power system would last you for 15 to 20 years with no major problems. The amount of money you will have saved from spending on your electric bill will be staggering to think about by this point. Your next door neighbors may loose their power because of a downed power line, but you will still have your lights on because you have become independent with your energy.
